Honey Bunches of Oats – Chocolate!

on

Chocolate! I can scarcely type the word without following it up an exclamation point! I don’t consider myself a chocaholic, but every now and then, I crave it. When my children showed me the back of the Strawberry Honey Bunches of Oats box we have featuring other varieties, including the Honey Bunches of Oats Chocolate version, I responded, “We’ve got to find it!”

They searched for it at the grocery store nearest us, but the store didn’t carry it. But as we were shopping at Publix yesterday, Elijah and Miranda ran back up to the cart with a box of it. Normally I ask what’s the price of whatever it is they’re trying to throw into the cart but not this time. I simply responded, “Throw it in the cart!” I’m not a cereal fan. My husband, Nick is, and he’ll only eat Honey Bunches of Oats – any flavor of it. Now of course, he prefers to have a homemade breakfast, and most mornings, I provide that along with my cooking lunch and dinner daily. Saturday is the one day I don’t cook. Cereal is typically not my go-to Saturday breakfast, because I usually find my stomach yelling just a couple of hours later!

But when you tell me that there’s a cereal mostly marketed for adults that contains chocolate, I’m in! So about this cereal – it’s described on the box of the strawberry version as follows: “Honey Bunches of Oats Chocolate Gluten Free adds the chocoately yumminess of real cocoa to our crispy flakes and tasty, crunchy oat clusters – and it’s gluten-free!”

Cereal Box
As you can see, I tore into this box as only a small animal could!

And yummy it is! Y’all, I added a banana to help stave off the hunger pangs that usually attack full force after I eat cereal. I also added half a cup of coconut milk, which added a special something to this quick dish! To top it off, the cocoa turned the milk chocolatey, which took me right back to my childhood, reminding me of the times when I went cuckoo for Coco Puffs!

Chocolate Cereal
Oh, my goodness! The milk turns chocolatey!

Whether you’re a huge cereal fan or just need to get your chocolate fix, I suggest giving this cereal a try. I don’t know if Nick will be able to this time around, because he’s out of town, and I doubt that there will be any of this yummy goodness left when he returns!
